Kenneth Emson

Professional writer for television, radio, and the theatre

Kenny Emson is an Essex born award winning playwright, now working across television, film and radio.

He has worked for the BBC across their continuing drama shows, writing for Eastenders, Doctors and for radio 3 and 4. He won the Off West End Adopt a playwright in 2010, the Adrienne Benham in 2012 and the Mercury Theatre Essex Playwriting award in 2016. He has also been shortlisted for the Bruntwood and Red Planet Prizes along with having work shown at the Prix Italia and SXSW festivals.

In 2016 he was nominated for a BAFTA Craft award for his project ‘The Last Hours of Laura K’ and his adaptation of the Agatha Christie short story ‘The Coming of Mr Quin’ was nominated for a BAFTA Cymru Game award.

He is currently developing TV Projects with BBC Drama and two feature films; BAI with Creative England and FOOTBALL MANGER with Wig Wam / Universal Pictures.

For the stage he is under commission to The Bush Theatre who will produce his play TERROISM later in the year and was on attachment at the Royal Court in January. He is an Associate artist with the Mercury Theatre, a visiting lecturer at St Mary’s University and acts as a freelance dramaturg, workshop facilitator and script reader for the Old Vic.
